How the flooring calculator works
Flooring is calculated from the room's square footage, inflated by a waste percentage to cover trimming and cutting losses, then divided by how much area a single box covers.
Formula: total area = length × width × (1 + waste% ÷ 100). Boxes = total area ÷ box coverage, rounded up to the next whole box.
Frequently asked questions
10% is standard for a straight installation. Diagonal (45°) layouts typically need about 15%, and herringbone patterns run higher still — plan for 18-20% since every wall produces angled offcuts that can't be reused.
